Alice Loiselle used action painting (or gestural abstraction) for a series of works she created at IAIA during the 1960s. Her paintings were inspired by the energy and physical activity of Abstract Expressionism’s new techniques of applying paint including dripping, throwing and squirting on large canvas. These painting techniques are reminiscent of both Jackson Pollock and Navajo sand painters. Loiselle went to school at IAIA in the postgraduates’ studies program right after graduating high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
