Frances Makil attended IAIA in the 1960’s. Her paintings often reveal stylized Hopi symbols. Makil’s Triangle Paining is the only shaped canvas in the Action/Abstraction Redefined exhibition and reflects tribal tradition combined with contemporary art influences. The painting includes fragmented Hopi symbols of the sun and rain clouds. Her work was included in the IAIA Rocks the Sixties exhibition in 2001.
