Roger Tsabetsaye is a master jeweler who was among the first Institute of American Indian Arts students when the school opened in 1962. He was instructed by renowned jeweler Charles Loloma. Six years later he was chosen “Artist of the Year” by the Indian Arts & Crafts Board, Department of Interior, Washington, D.C. Tsabetsaye is best known for his raised inlay, silver and gold jewelry and represents his Pueblo in major art events as he travels across the nation with examples of work created by the Zuni Craftsmen Cooperative. His Kachina No.1 depicts the profile of a Zuni Pueblo spirit being rendered in abstract, geometrical and gestural painting techniques.
