Neil Parsons

(O’mahk-Pita, Tall Eagle) (Piikani | 1938 - present)

Born and raised on the Blackfeet Reservation in Browning, Montana, Neil Tall Eagle Parsons earned his MFA from Montana State University in Bozeman. His painting Untitled (Pueblo Forms) is an abstract Pueblo scene in muted colors, combining Hard-edge and Color Field painting styles. The different color planes allude to Pueblo structures, land, and a horizon. They are separated by thin lines yet connected through the harmonious balanced composition. In 1964, Parson was recruited by Lloyd Kiva New to serve as a faculty member at the newly established IAIA in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Parson’s artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally with paintings in the permanent collections of the Heard Museum in Arizona; the Cody Museum in Wyoming; and the Missoula Art Museum in Montana.
