Juanita Waukazo (Chippewa)

Juanita Waukazo attended IAIA in the 1960’s where she focused on painting and ceramic art. Her works are characterized by stylized Southwestern designs often rendered in blue, gold, and red. Many of her ceramic pieces are wheel thrown with dark brown, green, and earth tone glazes. The colors and designs Waukazo uses represent a living link with aesthetic traditions, both ancient and modern. Her untitled painting from 1966 explores Hard-edge painting techniques. In 2001, her work was featured in the exhibition IAIA Rocks the Sixties.
