Peter B. Jones left the Seneca reservation in New York state to attend IAIA in 1963. As a sculpture artist Jones explored the use of clay in his personal expression and credits Hopi sculptor, Otellie Loloma as a large influence on his artwork. Jones contributed to the revival of ceramic art among the Six Nations Iroquois communities of the Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk, and Tuscarora people. While his early ceramics from the 1960s often included social and political commentary on issues in Indian Country, his later works are more customary in style and design, often using traditional pit fire techniques.
